I've used Adaware in the pest when I had a virus, worked well. Think I might download that as a back up too.

I've used both Norton and McAfee, both are really greedy at using resources, I originally used Norton, then when I changed IP I got McAfee free for a year, that ran out in April, can't say I've noticed much of a difference using AVG compared to the 2 premium programs on a day to day basis.

grandad, do you have ya norton set to update automatically? you should update all security daily, as the scammers etc are forever updating scams/viruses...they reckon everyday theres at least half a doz new viruses/scams so if you dont update youre not fully protected...also empty ya temp internet files + cookies that should help speed things up

yep Im doing all that tell , its still one hell of a lot slower than it used to be the only thing I have stopped it doing is saving files to disc automatically ( dont see the point of putting blank disks in the computer all the time ) as I never save anything, and as you said empty all files and cookies daily

A disc clean up every night and a degfrag once a week should help with your speed.

am doing disc clean up nightly ,and defragging twice weekly saz ,I think I have got so many different programs coming in on start up, that it is slowing the start up down,( and I dont know how to stop them ) I have got update systems trying to come in saying that I have to update the programs for the mouse ( you try to do it and it tells you software not found type in ignore and the mouse dissapears and you have to turn off the computer and reboot to get it back put in try later and it will all come up again until you type in try later about 4 times then after all that I will finally manage to get on the net .
