I speak a little out of ignorance with Piranha's my main issues with live foods is disease risk and gratification of owner (if its like a fish getting ripped to bits in the process of being eaten) - not saying thats your style at all Ken
However on the morals of it i am ok (the natural element), for example i feed locusts, crickets, meal worms and wax worms to my fish, in actual fact i drown a lot of the meal worms first so they sink when they go in (thinking about doing this in a more "humane" way but not sure???? and occasionally when i am over run with guppy fry i put a load in the parrot tank and the DAT will polish them off over the course of a few hours.

its an everlasting ongoing debate live feeding!personnaly i would never feed another fish to a fish, just as i wouldnt feed live mice to a cat,or live rabbits to a boa etc etc...but then i do feed live shrimp to fish, also crickets...i spose most folk see those stupid vids on utube etc and just get annoyed at the glee you hear in the voices of those that post such vids...is there really any need to chuck in a dozen guppies just to watch them get ripped to pieces?howsabout using frozen pinkies instead?less chance of contamination too...upto you ken mate but please if you do use live feeders dont post any vids eh?

The disease risk is one factor to bear in mind when feeding anything live to your fish, and very much unlike their natural environment, if you drop in a feeder into the tank, that feeder has no chance what so ever, whereas in the natural environment, it does have a chance. I don't know how things stand nowadays, but when I was a kid I used to work at the local country park where they used to nurse back to health stuff like owls etc, and were fed frozen chicks and mice, and when I asked why they didn't use live, it was banned on the grounds of cruelty because they were in a confined "box" if you like. Just my opinion.

Piranhas are ment to eat live food, i personally dont see anything wrong with live feeding as long as the food source isnt risking the health of the fish. i think it is wrong to start feeding a carnivore dead foods, i believe to keep a fish at its best we as fishkeepers should replicate their natural feeding and living habbits. I see your point telboy but we as humans are the biggest Killers of all! as long as you dont film it for other people to moan at then i quite like the idea of live feeding. Maybe some sort of isolated tank to rear clean food sourced for the piranha?

i don't see how a few idiots posting those sort of clips is that relevant.
i mean you get clips on youtube of kids beating up/attacking kids in parks, it's not right of course.
but then do we ban boxing?
