are you going ahead with the Tegu then? and no compost isnt a good idea as it may contain chemicals....just use specificly produced reptile substrate like orchid bark etc...i personaly wouldnt bother with any plants, maybe use fake ones for decoration only......if you are going ahead with the tegu i seriously wish u luck! they CAN be tamed although it isn`t easy, but i would strongly recommend you do! as an adult nasty Tegu is a formidable force! and if it does bite you it will most likely end in serious lacerations and possibly stitches! thats without the claws and tail to deal with!

all my friends say that for some reason??
i am looking for something as a substitute, but theres only 1 shop with reptiles within 30 miles. and i cant find anything on the freeads etc.
i am after some tokay but i cant seem to get them either, there is also a leopard gecko for 80 pound, which is too excessive for my pocket. maybe my luck will change... thanks dudes

that is damage from a large monitor lizard!! but an angry golden Tegu would still be capable of very similar injuries if it wanted to! maybe not quite so severe but not too far off!!

that isn`t me thank god lol, but no i dont use gloves...i find them too awkward and make handling difficult...plus they scare the animals too, if i really felt i needed gloves for any of mine on a permenant basis i would not have them, as to me that is no pleasure having to get gloved up and stressing the animal etc every time you have to handle them to move for cleaning etc...

tokays are nasty little buggers too, surprising the power in them thar jaws, all they do is hideaway + when ya get to close they "to-kay" at ya + if ya go to pick em up they all bite + it hurts,i had one used to jump out the viv at ya and try n take me fingers off...as for £80 for a leopard ghecko thats far too expensive my local reptile shop does em for £25 for young,25-45 for sub-adults and bout 60 for adults
