my son is desperate for a snake and i have thought about it but i cant do with feeding it mice or rats etc, i used to have pet mice, and i know that thats what snakes need to eat and it wouldn't be fair on the snake not to give it what it needs.
i used to know someone who used to feed huge live rats to his huge snake, it used to make me physically sick.

i cant even kill the snails in my tank without getting upset lol

It is sad but there is no other way. We had to breed our own mice to feed our snakes. As we had around 15 or so snakes at the same time each eating from 2-5 mice each, the costs of buying them frozen from the shops would be monumental. It was really sad when the mice time was up but thats just how it is.

As far as I'm aware its against the law to feed live rodents to reptiles, unless the reptile isn't eating anything but live animals.

Yes it is illegal. There is some species that you can feed live to legally. Our breeding program involved 50 - 75 mice. When they got to the right size we would get one of our friends who used to work on a farm(so was used to this kind of thing) to cull the mice. We never fed live. Even to the ones in which it was legal to.
