So I'll just rig those air lines up and throw a huey hung sponge filter at the end of each and that'll be good to go yeah?

Cos obviously with this set up, they'll be air coming in but no filtration happening... So what's the idea, when the waste goes to the bottom of the tank, I'll just sypthon/vacuum that up during water changes? All the tanks will be lightly stocked so waste levels will be minimal..

I know i'm probably asking questions that are common knowledge to you more experienced guys. But I've only ever dealt with regular filters so wanna make sure I'm clear about everything before I crack on with setting this all up.
Do you mean the Huey Hung Filters won't be filtering? Because they will. Vacuuming the bottom of the tanks of any waste should always be done anyway, some discus keepers do it several times each day.

Good luck with the fish house and make sure you get some photos up.

i know they filter as in they hold bacteria so do that side of things. but cos the air flow will be pushing the dirt away from the sponge and outlet cos of the air pressure... it wont be collecting waste will it?

i don't have a vacuum for my other tanks, but when doing water changes every other week i catch up all the crap with the siphon, saying that though my filtration on my tanks indoors is probably a bit excessive.

but yeah the whole fish house setup is going to be a real learning curve/experience. so keep your fingers crossed for me!

I've got hold of a load of wood for pretty cheap, now just after something for the insulation, would like kingspan but its too pricey unless i see some going for cheaper then it usually goes for im going to have to go for an alternative..

my pal has suggested i use that stuff they use in roofing for houses its like really thick cotton wool looking stuff (but yellowy in colour), with a silver foil coating on the outside edge... it's meant to be very effective and as cheap as chips...

i'll deffo post pic's throughout this whole project cos im gonna need help/advice/info every step of the way and i know visuals always help people know whats going on

robs already answered the question so I will concentrate on the pumps . don't be to hasty in accepting a price from tina ( unless its a good one) I bought my 2 at auction , one cost me £14.00 and the other I was top bidder at £13.50 plus p+p you have got time to log on to her site and bide your time until its going for a reasonable price.I think it took me about three weeks to get the two of them after a lot of panic bidding by people who thought they were getting a bargain and ending up paying £40.00 plus for them(.Let me know how much she quoted you .

cheers grandad, nice to have someone who knows the market going on our firm

i'm in no hurry as the build hasn't even started yet. so picking up bits as i go rather then shelling out all at once.

got most of the big old apple tree out the way, just the root now (the hardest bit!) then i can lay the concrete and have a base to work on..

you can make a cracking fish house there ,(just to show you how people can get carried away with their bidding while still thinking they have got a bargain ) ---put --jungle jackdog on google have a look at how much they are charging retail for their pumps (same as you want)then log onto tinahs site go onto feedback received and scroll down and see how much people have actually paid for them, you will be amazed.

ducey very useful link, cheers for that, made interesting reading especially the bit about >> "An air compressor is designed to provide relatively little air at high pressure, while an air blower is designed to provide relatively large amounts of air at low pressure."

Grandad i'm gonna take a peek at the jackdog prices now

wow the variation in what people pay are insane! i saw one go for 8 quid then another for 22 quid haha what a world!

ive seen some cheap kingspan insulation gear on ebay but not sure how much i need. my measurements for the room are 13ft x12.5ft x 9ft x 9ft will also have to insulate the roof. can anyone tell me how much insulation i need in square meters?

my maths is shocking, anyone who can work it out can have a can of the tipple of their choice delivered to their door *I got a feeling Rob's got his calculator out now* ahahahahaa

The height of the room could help.

EDIT: Roof will be 103.75, I think
