Default sump ideas

hello im new to the forum does anyone now what size sump i would need for a 8ft by 2ft by 2ft tank (220uk gal),i need to use an overflow box which one? what size sump pump would i need plus is there anyone who lives in manchester that could show me how to build it ,at the mo im using the eheim pro3 plus a rena xp4 with a 4500lt pond filter connected to it but to me dosnt seem to be doing the job ,i have the rena xp4 running on a 6ftx2ftx2ft at mo with another pond filter connected to it 2200lt and that seems to be doing what it is supposed to do .they are both malawi tanks and overstocked or any ideas besides the sump i dont want to have to put any more externals on if i can help it thanks lee

I dont use sumps Lee.
however from what i understand the bigger the better!
bigest sump you can acomidate that way you get water spending longer in the sump hence longer contact time with the bacteria.also a empty chamber lets you house heaters/uv's and even troublesome fish!

as to flow rates i will let others give details

hello lee, as popey has said the bigger the better when it comes to sumps! ive no experience of them either but if you check out http://www.reefsuk.org/forum/index.php and search through the relevant sections theres loads of ideas/ help/links to various designs of sumps...hope this helps terry

thanks for the replys im in two minds about the sump been to a pond shop today was looking at a filter similar to a sump the trouble is it needs to go slightly above tank to use as a trickle filter ,but ill have a look on that website to see whats best
