ok whilst eating me Chinese last night i had a eureka moment..

Cut a few lines in the lids of the food box

Cut some sponges to place the food lids on, as to give a gap underneath them.

Finished it off by laying some spoons from the kitchen on top to weight them down.

It doesn't look very attractive but I reckon it'll work?

why don't you just stick some marbles to the lids ?(no need for spoons then and not unsightly at all.)and don't need the sponges so less maintenance.

does it depend on how the eggs get fertilised mate?

i think with some egg layers the eggs get fertilised while they are still attached to female, but what about the one's that fertilise them once they have hit the floor?

i am really not sure, would be interesting to know though....
