when i next go to the LFS, I would l;ike to get some more of the tetras, another 2 or 4, and a few more of the rainbows, they like it in a shoal. I was also looking at the bristle nose cat and the kribensis, purple cichlid, and a few clown loach, what do you think? I was going to wait until the tank is further matured, I believe these fish are a little more sensitive. are these fish ok together, my research says they should be, but would like some reassurance, before I go and make a bad decision!

Evening Sally

The fish with bad nose may just be a scuff from local fish shop's rough net?
Keep a eye on it as i had a rainbow that had mouth funguss a couple of times and he wouldnt eat. its early days and your keen as its your new baby.If it gets worse over the next couple of days

we can look at treating with something like (waterlife's) Mixazin i would recomend keeping a bottle of this or Esha2000 in stock as they are both great anti bacterial treatments.

not sure about the blue moon either? not a blue neon in discuise is it

EDIT sory fry for going over what you had already typed ,i couldnt see all posts to start with and then took ages to upload mine!
nice to see we are thinking on the same lines with the funguss

Thanks popey! Fry Lover found the pic, its a blue flame tetra, but my ones have very vivid blue tinge to the top of their back and the pink on their tale and anal fin is gorgeous, but there is one in there that is chasing the other b/f tetras, its nipped a chunk out of the fin of one of them, I`m going to get a few more to make a bigger shoal, will this help?

it will lessen the agression ! never the same one fish being chased all the time they take it in turns chasing eachother

i once had 2 male silvertip tetras and 3 femals it was great to see they had divided the tank right down the middle ( teritory ) like i had a glass divider between them and the female's would cruse between the 2 sidestarts

typical women! LOL. Thanks for that advice. The one doing all the chasing is slightly bigger, but only slightly, his fins are much brighter, I may be guessing?, but could it be this one is a male, with his pick of three females? hence the chasing. I only see `him` during the day, he chases the others back to the plants at the rear where they stay mostly until its dinner time.
Another quick question, I`ve turned off the powerhead I had that I used to circulate the water at the other end of the tank, the outlet from my cannister is quite gentle. Is this ok? or should I turn it back on?

if the power head is used to circulate the water only then it should be ok .however if its conected to any filter i would leave it on.( make any sence

i think you may have a male being more colourful, male's in tetras in my opinion are often the smaller of the two.
