Forgot to tag onto last post! I`ve seen a few tanks with sand as the substrate, will my gravel be ok, or is sand better for the fish?

LOL!! bless, not quite!! its where Blenheim Palace is, the birth place of Sir Winston Churchill, very rural, I live in a village just down road, blink and you`ll miss it! incidentally, used to work as a chef at blenheim, so I can knock you up some scram if you ever passing!
Now dont shout at me, but I have been going to, (Oh I`m frightened to type this in case you disown me!!!) world of water for fish supplies. I have had some good chats with the staff there, and have quite a good relationship with them, they seem to know their stuff, and the fish all seem well looked after. I trust them there, guess i will just have to take the punt when I get my first fish.

Woodstock i know it well!
love the little butchers shop that has half butchers and half bakery!
Sally
World of water are in my opinion fine! do ya research on prices and the fish you plan to get ......Prices are a shocker from outlet to outlet. as a rule the cheaper the fish stock the less quranteening they do if any!
eg my local Pets at home have fish arive on a thursday and they will not sell them that day but they do on the firday! its been said before that they sell rubbish fish ! i believe if you know what a healthy fish looks like and you can quaranteen them yourself at home they you can pick up some bargins. That said we payed £34 for a giant Oranda from a good reputation shop and hey went on to wipe out all out fish.....even though he was returned to the shop for a full refund.
im on first name terms with all the long term staff at World of warter near me and i have no problems.
any ideas on what fish you fancy yet?
regards Rob
ps. Sally you can call me anything you like my dear.......just dont call me late for lunch !

hmmmm, what fish to have?
Hi robert,
I`m still undecided on what fish. i did pop into the lfs today, really loved the discus, are they tricky to look after? I`ve read your thread and watched your vid clips of your ma and pa and babies hatching, I think they are beautiful fish, something different, you know. I`ve seen them with other fish in the display tanks, but can you give me the rundown on whats needed if I did decide to keep these lovely fish?
I`ll tell you what I have at present, and you can see a pic of the setup of my tank further back on this thread.
180 litre tank
Fluval 205
powerhead airator
the water PH is 7.6 at present, is this an issue?
Would appreciate a checklist of what I would need if I decide to have these fish

out of curiosity?
hey Fry Lover,
do you keep marine aswell? Just wondered, purely curiositys sake, wondered what additional equipment and funds i would need to set up a marine tank. Went to Lfs today, fell in love with the marine fish, they are so vibrant in colour, and such variety. No disrespect to the trops I`m gonna get, just always wondered, can you help?
