Default Poorly Rainbow, what do I do?

As mentioned in another thread, I introduced 2 boesemans Rainbow fish on Friday, one of them developed a whiteish mark on its snout, this has now disappeared, the colour seems to have faded from around its nose and top of head, the rest of its body is still quite vibrant tho, its not swimming at all well, keeps to the top of the water, pointing vertical, nose touching top of water. When it does swim, it keeps bumping into the glass. I hate seeing animals suffer, if they dont have to. Is it just a waiting game? my worry is if it infects the other fish. Please Help!
I`ve checked water, as I do every day, and everything is fine, the other fish seem to be doing well.

Rainbows are quite prone to mouth infections. Maybe try a general antibacterial treatment like Melafix.

thanks for replying so quick, but it died unfortunately, mercifully it was quick. I just feel so responsible, if I`d done something sooner, maybe I could have saved it, instead of waiting.

its just one of those things, we all lose fish , and they are especially at risk when newly purchased ,we don't know what conditions they had to endure before you had them ,or what diseases they brought with them ( if any ) and you could not have done any more for the fish, so although it is distressing ,(always the hardest when you lose your first fish ), and some will die for no apparent reasons others that you think have no chance, fully recover ) so you have got to put it behind you and concentrate on the living .

every morning before any lfs opens they go around their tanks removing the dead and dying , and some of these could have actually been in the same shoal, as the fish that you bought, its just one of those things so you have nothing to reproach yourself for

Where most of my fish are cheap, if they show any signs of impending death i put them in a sandwich bag and punch them or knock them on the head with a hammer.

Sorry about your fish.
I don't think there is much you could have done if it was that bad.

sory to hear about your new fish loss. as others have said you dont know the history of them before we get them.

i visit one aquatic store the moment they open most saturdays and im shocked how many deths they have !and this is just over one night . the other week they had 6 dead clown fish(little nemos). take a fish from a tank were water might not be as good as it could be ,get it home and the stress can take a few days to show.

Chin up its early days!

Robert.

The others seem to be fine, the tetras are still hiding at the back not doin alot, because the fourth keeps chasing them.
I was planning to get more fish this weekend, would this be ok?
