Post teenie white worm, sinister or not?

Hi everyone,
All going swimmingly in the tank, have added a few more fish to make up the numbers, only rainbows and blue flame tetras at present, but they look great swimming in their respective shoals.

I`ve noticed wriggling in the open water the tiniest white thread like "worm", is this a nasty beastie?
I`ve fished them out with a net when I catch sight of them, and then sterilised the net after just in case. They are really tiny, not visible once out of the water.

I think telboy or Rob C might know, someone will. If it's a parasite i would imagine it would be on the fish as opposed to cruising the tank!

Obviously best to be safe and try and find out

I wondered that, have looked uber carefully at the fish, but can see no hitch hikers.
I did mention it at the lfs, the guy said they can show up if over feeding? I`m very careful with the feeding, only feeding them once a day, and only as much as they will eat in a few mins.
Ammonia and nitrite are at 0ppm, and the nitrate is only 10ppm now, so the filter and tank are maturing nicely now.

Sounds like it could be planaria, if so, they are harmless, and generally a good indicator of over feeding.

whats your recomendation for feeding?
I have a planted tank, with 8 blue flame tetras about 1" long, and 6 mixed rainbows about 2" long
I`ve only been feeding them once a day in the evening, feeding tetra pro vegetable.

I wouldn't worry about the amount your feeding, if you start getting lots of the worms, then I would cut back. I personally feed my fish once every 2 days (except fry) and the bichir once a week.

I used to get these sometimes, mainly after a water change, nothing to worry about

I have them also in my discus and as curviceps said nothing harmfull.

i was told that its from lack of maintenence and overfeeding.im not convinced on both accounts.

Its definately not through lack of maintenance! I have way too much time on my hands, and they get the best care ever!!!! I`m just gonna feed them every other day from now on, and see how that goes.

Hey popey, didnt want you to misconstrude my reply! was a bit snappy about your comment of overfeeding and lack of maintenance, wasn`t meant that way, I hope it came across in the jokey manner it was intended! still, the planaria seem to have gone, must have been overfeeding? only feed a very small amount once a day, they are like a pack of piranhas when I open the lid!!! LOL x
