Any large coldwater fish, Bristol shubunkins, blue orfe, red and white tench, golden tench, native fish.

I have never seen red and white tench for sale, they are tench which are like red and white koi.

There are a few but I would love to keep an Aba aba think knife fish but upside down.

I would also love to set up a dedicated freshwater ray tank I have a space ear marked for a tank it would be a corner tank one side being 4 foot the other about 9 foot at its narrowist point it would be one foot wide.

I would attempt to get hold of true retics as these top out at about a 14" disc or I would try and get hold of scobina that also top out at about this size I would only keep 4 fish in the tank one male to 3 females in the hope of breeding them for onward sale to do my little bit to reduce demand on rays from the wild plus tank breds are much hardier. I may well have kept about 10 spotted metynis in this set up with the rays or perhaps a shoal of dicus. The set up would have a 6x2x2 sump under neath it and would have circulation pumps in the tank to turn the water over around 50 times per hour.

The sump would have the main filtration in the first 2 foot of the 6x2x2 the remainder would be a reservoir that could be isolated to enable easy water changes without stressing the fish.

That would be a stunning set-up, not exactly cheap though.

Wouldn't be that expensive I would construct the stand and hood my self it would just be a case of getting the tanks I would probably use a couple of water tanks under the tank the sort used to feed hot water cylinders in homes. That would save a fortune plus easy to drill.

The stand would consist of numerous brick piers and a 2" panel of hardwood would go on top and be levelled the tank would be placed on top of this and I would have a 1" thick slap of polystyrene under the tank. Once tested under normal conditions for a month no fish I would drain the system down examine underneath for any stress problems and providing none were found I would box in the base so it was completely sealed aside from an access hatch for maintenance and I would refill it and then it would be ready for fish once matured.

I have all the plans in my head I just can't get the idea passed my better half!!!!!

The actual main tank construction aside building the stand would probably cost no more than a 3 foot tank with cabinet and hood. I would probably go for an acrylic tank as these are lighter than glass and far more durable and at this size would probably be cheaper than glass.

I would probably put my Chrysichthys brachynema in there as these are going to get quite large!!!!! (it was an accidental purchase I misidentified them, wouldn't have bought them otherwise)

I've been thinking about this for a while now, I'd probably go for an 8x3x3 tank with root style bogwood some large amazon swords and a few other amazon plants. Stocking wise I'd go for 10-20 Red Alenquer discus or possibly wilds, 10-20 Silver angel fish or possibly wild altums, 10 flag cichlids, 8 checkerboard cichlids, 8 nanacarra anomala, a big shoal of rummy nose tetras and a big group of corydoras. Filtration wise I'd go for as big a sump as I could get. Definately an idea for the future...
