i kept a FRT for 18 months when i took a brake from rays

FRT eat alot of veg which means they produce alot of heavy organics which are not that good for fish but you will know that as you have done so much resurch on FRT

if you have had your FRT for 5yrs and its only 8inch disk then you have a problem and you are not feeding it right

mine used to eat prawn fish hikari algue waffers tetra reptomin and other veg

i had mine for 18 months hears is a pic when i 1st got them to when i sold one

mine came from your LFS aquatic design

i ask again what size tank do you have ?

as you can see one was in a bad way when i got them

My tank is 5x2x2, perhaps i have underestimated his size, he is thriving.

You should know these turtles should not be offered fish, etc, their digestive system is not built for this. The only meat they eat in the in the wild is the occasional river shrimp.

They grow quickly in the first few years of of their lives but growth will slow, as i said it takes 25 years to reach adult size.

The waste he produces is turned into nitrate like any other organic matter, thats the way science works, i don't have a problem with nitrates. There is a large internal plus 2 eheim externals running on this tank.

5x2x2 is to small you need a 7x3x2 min tank size

they do eat meat you need to do some more resurch

their main food is veg but they do eat meat

if they eat river shrimp in the wild what is the diffrence between river shrimp and prawn

mine was fine with fish when the arowana was in the tank as the aro used to keep the FRT in its place but 2 weeks after i sold the aro the FRT started to kill fish for fun not to eat them just to kill

turtles and fish just dont mix

5yrs and only 8inch their is something wrong their

dont get me wrong they are a great turtle but not with any fish you are not scared of losing

the way the cycles works is you are right amonia-nitrite-nitrate

but the FRT lets out so much other crap into the water that you just cant test for you dont never see any large piles of crap from the FRT

good luck i hope you dont lose anymore fish

A ten year old should have a shell of 25cm which is roughly 10'', so mines doing just fine, thanks.

You didn'y say prawns you said fish. Mine does eat meat just in very small offered amounts

Regardless of how much waste he produces the nitogen cycle will turn this to nitrate, no two ways about it, trust me i have a degree in chemistry.

You go and pee and poo in a pool and it will turn to nitrate trust me.

As for tank size, the tank he is now is more than adequate for him and in a year or two when he is bigger he will be moved to larger accomadation.

It would seem you have a little bee in your bonnet purely because you don't like parrot fish, i could say the same about you keeping arrowanas and rays, so please if you want to have a dig do it about something that you know what you're talking about.

Just to add you don't see large piles or crap because they eat it, mine craps like crazy but he immediately eats it, thats why you don't see it.

well if he is eatting his own poo then that tells you hes NOT getting the right kind of food

dogs do the same when they are not getting enought nutrition yes or no

and your right i cant stand parrot fish they are man made in a test tube

you will be telling me the heart parrots are cool next the type that have had their tails cut off

you say your parrots had diffrent colors that you had never seen before they were probably the dyed type but the color had faded

get a real fish then you can talk not the chav parrot fish

doesnt matter how long i have been a member hear i have been a active member on many forums

my turtle is not bigger as i dont own it anymore i didnt think it right to keep something that would out live me

the main people who like the parrot are people who are new to the hobby and dont know any better

any fishkeeper how loves fish wouldnt buy a parrot in the 1st place

i wonder how people would react if they man made a salt water lion fish with a puffer or a man with a monkey so why should we take something like the parrot fish lightly

if people didnt buy them then they wouldnt make them
