Thanks for the info johanswan

I'll take a look & see if I have enough brain capacity to have a go.

I doubt it, but its worth a look.

Regards

Simon

Hey Y'all

I don't understand it at all.

When doing a search, I can't find Schuran Nitrate reactor.

I can see Schuran Nitrate filter, or a Calcium Reactor, Can't see a Nitrate reactor though.

Even the calcium reactor looks a bit technical for me, as its made for Marine, eg: it mentions using coral.
I need it for Freshwater Tropical, just to wipe out my Hair algae.

Is there not a simpler way, such as dosing directly with some form of nitrate regularly to ensure that the nitrate stays at a steady level ? ?

I did a bit of research and the best way i can recommend to dose direct to your tank is to dilute 20ml off vodka with 1 liter off water and use it to top up your tank with so if you have marines you should use r/o water.this should be quite an effective way to get rid off your nitrates altough you should only see results in about a weeks time.I personally use a nitrate deductor now with alfhagrog in it and only dose vodka when my nitrates rose above 15ppm wich only happened once.I hope that this will help as i see schuran don make the download instructions availible anymore.Do NOT dose more than once a day the way i did it was .50ml a day into my sump but the instructions i have says you van mix 20ml with a liter off water.

Thanks Johan

The advice is much appreciated.

Can I ask another question.

If this will zero the nitrate.

If I do nothing, what effect will this have on either my tropicals or plants.

Thanks

E

Thanks Ian. Equilizer i suggest that you dont bring your nitrates down to zero in a freshwatertank as your plants will need some nitrite to live off.I personally only use vodka to bring my nitrates to a exeptable level and you should still do your waterchange.I used to be in discus and ciclhlids and know that the hairalgea can drive you up the wall but if you keep your n03 at about 10 ppm the hairalgea should die off.I use to run a sulpherbead reactor on my freshwater tank to keep my nitrates down would work ok but cant say about vodka except that you can run the schuran on fresh or saltwater

Thanks again Johan

I think what I need to do is to read up a little & think about the best way to sort this.

Usually its a simple case of overfeeding if the nitrates are too high.

I'm gonna do a couple of water tests over the next week, read up on a few websites that you have posted. See what else i can find out & then I'll report back.

Thanks again for your advice.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed.

Regards

E
