Thanks Grandad ...i was thinking of something that may help keep the algae under control fish wise...any suggestions of what would fit well with the other fish?

Thanks i may scrap the idea of using much ocean rock and just keep adding small amounts of liverock as and when i can afford it...as it will make for a much better eventual finished set up (as advived by Grandad)

looking good ian, notice ya got a wee prob with the manjano in the 1st pic, keep an eye on em or they'll take over, mind you i think theyre attractive little nems so i used to leave em unless they interfered with the corals also is that a huge aiptasia there? nice fish too, i recognise them clowns

Thanks Tel and yeah that is two aiptasias! i am leaving them for now but i hear they can be a REAL pest!! the other reddish purply ones i have i find really quite beautiful and interesting so they are no problem, unless they pose any threats? bearing in mind i dont have corals.

yeah as i said manjanos are very pretty for a pest, id get rid of the aiptasia asap mate before it takes over the entire tank

Hi Ian sorry to butt in there are loads of options for algae control
ie
Algae Blenny
turbo snails
most tangs
sea urchins will eat it but they will also clear your coraline algae and make your rocks look white.
hermitt crabs have helped keep mine down.

one thing to remember also is that new tanks go through these algae stages as part of there cycle, 99% of the time it clears up by itself when you enter the next algae stage . My 7ft reef has just passed the brown stage and now its coming into the green stage its been running 6 months so dont panic it will clear as long as you keep on top of your water changes etc and keep the phosphates down

as for the aiptasia get yourself a couple of true peppermint shrimps before it gets out of control

jsu a quicky totally agree with ya ste, thing im not sure about is the peppermint shrimps as he has a pacasso and a niger triger wont they munch em just a thought been told you cant add after the triggers but before is ok

cheers Ste...and yeah as Dunc said...the triggers (especialy picasso) will make a good meal out of any shrimps/crabs and snails lol...
