Just a note on the potato front I have tried potato untreated and the fish ignored it.

I don't know what the freezing does to it but it certainly makes it pallatable for the fish. I think raw potato is just too hard and there is certainly a slightly different smell to it after it has been frozen and then defrosted.

Also cutting it into discs is helpful as it means the fish can literally sit on it and eat it ceetainly in the case of my garra.
