If all people liked the same things life would be boring. My fish give me great pleasure and are probably not for everybody but I spend many hours in my fish house during the week before and after work, cleaning, feeding etc. and are almost a full time job at weekends. After a stressful day at work there is nothing more calming than sitting down in the fish house with a cup of tea, packet of cigarettes just watching them especially the Lionheads.

Chris i know exactly what you mean, as i get a lot of stick for my Parrots, but they bring me a lot of joy and i look after them VERY well believe me.

When peeps say a fish is "ugly" they are basically saying "its not to my taste" in much the same way i could walk into an Art Exhibiton and say "this is a load sh*t"

Although well within the rights of the forum, i think to wade into this thread throwing around "ugly" is quite simply bad form!!! (no offence, lol)

When does MR Fry get his modorators badge?....joke ok

On a serious note forums do tend to get disrupted and go away from the subject in question ! Spring Viraemia of Carp (SVC) ????

On a quaranteen note i made a mistake a year back by purchasing a special order black oranda.....we trusted the dealer who got him for us and they had him 2-3 weeks before we had him .well a few people here already know the story so will cut it short . he was infected and through us not quaranteening him we went on to loose all our breeding stock! (ok only 5 fish but if we had more then im sure they would have all croaked it)

Great update, shame that it has arrived on UK soil.
What I dont get is, why did it take DEFRA 2wks to confirm the disease?
There are rapid tests in use for the very reason of a rapid turn around.
ELISA and immunofluorescence (IF), are rapid and considered sufficient to initiate control measures. There are other molecular tests that are complete within a day.
Plus SVC is notifiable, whereas koi herpes virus is not. Under the right conditions KHV will wipe out more fish than SVC. Goldfish are not known to carry KHV.
