Unhappy Aaaaaargh

My pair of Rams that I bought last weekend laid next to the front glass wall of the breeding tank mid week in a hollow they made in the substrate and I was overjoyed

Checked this morning and the eggs are gone with no sign of a fry anywhere. I assume that this is the first time that they have laid, is it normal that they will or can panic and eat their first set of eggs? I'm also intrigued to read in this months new PFK magazine where the questions are answered that there is one about Ram's that is spookily relevant to my experience. It states in the reply that something must be wrong as rams never lay next to the front glass and hardly ever in substrate hollows, choosing flat stones instead.

I had flat stones in different areas of the breeding tank but my experience is similar to the one mentioned. Has anyone bred or who keeps rams able to advise me?

Different fish will do different things when it comes to spawning, I know someone whose angelfish will only spawn on a filter, others will only spawn on a leaf, give them time, they will get it right in the end.

Nick Nice to see your back around!
My Golden Rams use to spawn as yours have in a hollow, then they would move them after they hatch. It took mine 4 go's toget fry to hatch then i lost the female.....i think consecutive breeding atempts tired her out to much so feed them loads of nice things like frozen bloodworm, whiteworm, microworm perhap's if i had done this i would have kept her alive.

The babys are micro in size Nick so Baby Brine shrimp would proobably be well worth looking into.

Hi Rob, great to hear from you

Are baby brine shrimp too large for the fry or would they be okay (I have another thread where I have lost my blue acara fry for the second time running as I think the food baby brine shrimp, micro worm and powdered food was too large for them)

im not sure Nick.

i have very old books that talk about making rotifer's?

a soup can be made from say a letice leaf in a bowl of water its the micro organizums that develope that are very small. maybe its the same stuff that live in a alge coverd fry tank?

look up on google and see what you think mate!
