If the fish have been deformed externally in such a way, what damage has been done internally, what will the long term effects be on keeping such fish and moving them out to people.

Will they be prone to illness - most probably

Will people keeping them as they were so cheap start reaching for the medicine cabinet - most probably

Will many die off through med over dose or have a shortened life span for other reasons most probably.

Will people then say discus are difficult to keep - who knows?

The discus world is full of myths and bs, just like many specialist pets

I am not saying it is right to rear them or right to cull them - that is up to the owner.

Just saying careful thought is needed.

I personally would cull but if in doubt keep until 2" and make a decision then, but the longer you keep the more difficult it becomes

i value all that has been said on this thread.

I was left with 3 deformed fish they eat well and swim fine, only with flat tops!

Ok these may be deformed but they are also a learning tool for myself, for them to still be alive after all this time shows i can keep them alive and if they were A1 fish then they may have put on better size.
These fish have been kept also to see how the colours turn out as its a mixed strain pair.
