being new to the game of discus fishbreeding i think one is a red turk (male) and the other a pigeon snakeskin (female)

forgot to ask guy when i bought them last week

will post pics of em when blue has gone lol

also noticed over last hour both parents have been costantly fanning eggs 24/7

but they have had a few tiffs with each other bit of pecking and butting is this normal think the female has won at mo as she is fanning and male has gone for a long swim

hes back again and mrs is havin a go at him again

mrs won on points till next time

is this behaviour normal

cheers delboy

robert

sorry not been in touch too busy watching my discus

the eggs hatched friday morning smack on 60 hours after first egg laid as it says in many discus books

at present parents have been constabtly fanning them taking it in turns

there was a bit of aggro between them on day one must be something to do with new toy syndrome

they have moved them from hatch site to corner of tank on silicon

then back again

then onto sides of tank glass and then back to silicon

im at end of day three now should be free swimming tomorrow fingers crossed

she laid about 100 eggs what i could see of which a bout a dozen were white
think ive got about 25+ wrigglers but cant tell because of size and at back of tank dont want to get too close

think some of opaque eggs didnt hatch and may probably ate some cant be sure

anyway will settle for 25 if thats the cause

will also settkle for 1 6inch discus out of batch just to say i can breed them at first attempt lol

yours seem to be coming on in leaps and bounds hope im as successful as you

ill keep you informed thanks for interest

delboy

congratulations your one step closer! dont forget to cover dark things in the tank with white tights as the parents need to be the darkest thing in the tank for the fry to find! i used white sports socks.

i also reduced the water level to half tank ( less tank space for babys to get lost in

had a first set back today ,lost 4 babys to the little power filter even though it had been in there 5 days +

watched them very closely early hours of morning

wrigglers started to swim around maybe 4-5 male took great pleasure in chasing round tank had them in his mouth at some point couldnt tell tho what he was doing with them tho consumption or putting back on tank walls.

female was noticed to be putting them back onto tank sides but thought male was getting a taste for them

went to bed nervously thinking that would end up with none in morning

morning came fry still on tank sides

came back from work look to where fry were all disappeared forgot to look at parents and to my joy there they were havent had chance to count them but had to tell someone bit sad i know but so excited

rob i did put white socks over my sponges two days ago following your advice on hear many thanks for that much appeciated.

only dark thing in tank is heater will prob change for clear one on next batch.

will charge camera up today and forward some pics

delboy
del im only happy to pass on what i have been told/researched ........and if i hadnt been told it i probably wouldnt have ever conciderd it myself.

there use to be alot of secrets regarding discus ........this reluctant passing on of simple information added to the " conissur fish keeper's power!"

the sock idea will be a fiver

alot of the newer keepers are happy to pass it on!

glad they are looking afterthem i noticed my male would hold fry in his mouth for along time .........then have 2 or 3 before spitting
