its not set in stone ......they could be raised from day 8 or 9 onwards with baby brineshrimp (BBS) i think the longer they feed from mum /dad the stronger they will become and get a head start in life! ( makes sence to me)
The parents will at some point become sore from babys biteing chunks from them!......so i can only answer long enough but not to long ....im still learning
Ray?? how long do fry stay with mum & dad?

Rob,as with most thing discus everone has their own opinion, you can leave them with the parents for aslong as 6 weeks, but the pair will want to spawn again soon and the babies will be in danger,I would take them away at about 10 days so as to be able to give heavy feedings of brine shrimp and introduce them to ground beef heart, the reasoning to leave them longer with the parents is to keep their immune system topped up,as soon as they are alone they will have to develop their own disease resistance,as the dreaded 4 weeks approach, another reason I would seperate early is to start and harden the water up for good growth.should have said I meant 10 days of the babies feeding from the parents, not from hatching date, sorry.
