its basicaly for diseases and parasites etc....snakes have a no. of diseases that may not show themselves for a VERY long time...also by nature snakes are solitary creatures and live alone naturaly apart from breeding season, just the stress of living in close quarters with other snakes day to day can stress them out...also it is much easier to monitor who has eaten, who is in shed who has poo`d etc etc...also although rare in most snakes...cannibalism can and has happened also!...it is at the end of the day the individual keepers choice, but personaly i prefer to keep them solitary except for breeding
