Yes Rob, i have used the clove oil method in the past and did quite a bit of research on it. I used mine with a tiny bit of vodka as the alcohol helps the clove oil disolve into the water properly. I was sufficiently satisfied from the research on the net and chatting to others on forums that the small amount of alcohol does not increase the suffering of the fish and it can allow the clove oil to work more effectively.
I believe its best practice to freeze the fish after the clove oil (or otherwise ensure it is completely dead), as if you dont use enough clove oil, the fish can actually come "back to life" at some point.
