Lightbulb Handy tip for housing your fish

Got too many fish and not enough tanks? Fish spawned and you want to keep the fry but have nowhere to grow them on? Just discovered that your two fantails need 80l of water between them? Got a problem fish in your tank?

Here is an idea for housing them for a fraction of the price of a tank. Get one of those plastic storage boxes (Really Useful Boxes are good) and use it as a tank. They are great for keeping fish, and can be set up with filter, heater and air pump. The lid should be slightly raised to allow air to circulate. Holes can be drilled if necessary, but I have not needed to do that.

The biggest size is 84l.

The box must be good quality and sturdy, cheap ones are not good enough and will be deformed by the weight of water.

The same rules apply as when siting a normal tank, eg out of the reach of children and pets, away from radiators, on a level strong surface.

Hope that is useful.
