Default Anti Virus and Firewalls (free versions)

Just wondered what the latest thinking was on the best anti virus and firewall software to use (free versions!)

I've been using AVG without issue on my main PC (XP), i was wondering if this is still one of the recommended one's?

For some reason i couldn't get AVG to work on my lab-top (Vista), so i wondered what a good alternative is to AVG? Cheers

As for firewalls, i have just been using Window's Defender, do you think this is sufficient?

Looking for software that won't hog resources (i.e. Norton) and slow my system down, my PC is a Dell with 512MB Ram and my Lap-top is Dell, also with 512MB Ram

Do a lot of general surfing on the internet, downloading music, watching films etc so i would like to take steps to ensure i am well protected!

I use Trend Micro PC-cillin.

My mate is a hardcore computer techy and he loaded it up for me, I've never had any problems and I'm downloading music and movies 24/7

I use AVG and using Windows Firewall, but will probably download ZoneAlarm, I tend not to trust Microsoft to look after my machines.

i use Mcafee security suite on all pc + laptops, does everything, but i also use Adaware 2007 spyware as a backup...according to every IT person ive spoke to you should always have more than 1 anti spyware programme.
