Somethings Bugging Me!!!
I got some meal worms, crickets and locusts today (mostly for the benefit of my Chalceus, Rainbows and DAT, although the DAT doesn't seem to be interested)
Anyway, i am saving the crickets for a few days in the container they came in. I put some lettuce in for them (i believe thats where they get their water from?).
Anyway (and i am serious here), i found it quite touching the way they all made an instant bee-line for the lettuce and started munching on it.
It got me thinking..... i think i have a little buzz about keeping some kinds of insects, but... it's got to be real cheap, there is no budget available for it.
QUESTION.....
I have a spare plastic tiny fish tank available, its about 10" long, 4" deep and 8" high, holds about 10 litres of water, so you know it's small!
What (if any) insects can i keep? I must admit, i will be tempted to use some as fish food and keep some just for the hell of it, OR i guess if i get attached i wont be able to feed them to the fish!
What can i do peeps, any idea's?

Also I feed my crix mainly cucumber (great source of water - more so than lettuce) remember the crix will be dehydrated anyway as they aren't fed anything nevermind given water when shipped out and in pet shops. I also feed tomato which they love.
These foods are also much better to gut-load your crickets before feeding to your fish as remember lettuce has no nutritional value.

Thats Jess, yeh i kind of felt sorry for the crickets, they seemed absolutely desperate for the lettuce, was thinking cucumber too, will chuck some in today.
I was thinking about breeding the crickets, but i think i need a bigger set-up than what i have mentioned?

Look mate just cos one person calls you a bad fish keeper, you don't have to jack it in and start keeping cockroaches and creepy crawlies

Breeding crickets isn't as easy as you may think Lex, more hassle than its worth IMO. Plus breeding crickets actually stink like ****!!

I might get into the whole hybrid insect market, see if i can't breed some crickets with a locust, see what i get out of it, then sell them on as "pure"
