Default Grandad

HELLO, I'm grandad. Ive kept fish for the last 40 years starting with the community tropicals then a couple of tanks of cichlids, in my younger days I had 8 breeding tanks in the bedrooms 2 community tanks in one room downstairs 2 cichlid tanks and a marine tank in the other after a few years got rid of all but the marine tank ( The mrs finally had her way and reclaimed all the rooms) kept marines for 8 years until one morning got up to the smell of cooked fish thermostat had failed to turn heaters off. that was the end of my marine fishkeeping for a number of years. Got back into the hobby 3 years ago bought a 4ft bowfront rena tank and set it up as a reeftank, had my problems but now every thing ok touch wood.bought a 5ft rena but find it is not big enough for my needs ,so I am in the process of setting up my new tank 6x2x2ft6 with sump, which I hope will suit my needs . I find things much more complicated this time round but am getting my head around it slowly.Years ago all that I needed was a tank ,undergravel filter, shell and gravel mix ,hydrometer, heater ,salt ,water from the tap and six weeks to let it all come together ,introduce fish waterchange every six weeks ,job done . Im also an animal and bird lover . I have 2 german shepherd dogs 3 cats 4 parrots and a budgie.

Welcome to the forum, sounds like you've had some great tanks. Any photos of your current set up?
