Default Change of ways!

Hello all, long time no speak.

Recently decided to give up on a lot of my fish, most of my small tanks are gone. just one left for the Side neck turtles. Also got myself a few new reptiles. Aquired a 4 foot female iguana and a leopard gecko. I found small fish tanks a lost cause and and have kept the big'uns for when i get my own place. i will post some pictures tomorrow after work for yall to see. Also does anyone know why i am seeing people charge hundreds of pounds for larger iguanas when i can get juvenile's for under a tenner.

Cheers!

Because if the animal is tame, its taken a LOT of hard work and effort to get it that way. Also a LOT of money to raise it. Green Iguanas are NOT cheap to keep.

As with anything babies are always cheaper. They are imported on a stupidly high scale and bred to an even more stupid number.

Mine was a rescue, even then they asked for a donation, simply to go back into the work they do. IMHO anyone asking money for an adult iggy (unless its a donation for a rescue) needs to get into the real world. There are so many adult igs out there looking for homes that you cannot pay people to take them. I saw someone advertising an ig that their flat mate left..it was a baby...for £150!!! Not only was that person obviously money grabbing, no one would BUY a baby green for £150..its ludacris..She clearly stated in the ad too that she had to get rid of it asap as she had absolutely no idea how to care for it, and it was 'vicious'. I offered to take this ig, but told her I wouldn't give her money for it unless it came with the housing (which obviously it wasn't..). She replied that she wanted the full £150 for it.

Imagine that, an abandoned animal that you don't even own, have no idea how to care for. its nasty and skittish, no housing or equipement with it, and a youngun, alll for £150!!

About a month later she contacted me asking if I'd take it for free..

I used to be friends with someone who owns two adult male rescue igs. Now, he worked for the rspca,, which is how he got the igs. And he asked me if he could breed his male to my female for 50/50!!! Not only do fem igs have a high rate of egg binding, but come on, we know how many neglecting iggies there are out there that are desperately seeking homes!! Should we really create more?? He should of been setting an example...I'm absolutely disgusted he had a job with the RSPCA tbh!

My rant over but please people..if your getting an ig..get a rescue! They are in dire need of homes! And Dom, post pix up of yours! Can't wait to see her!
