what type of gecko is it? as far as i remember they eat flies/crickets/moths/mealworms etc...why dya not wanna feed crickets? could it be the dreaded "chirping"? used to drive me bonkers, especially when they escaped + got under the floorboards which is why the boss[wife] wont let me keep reptiles anymore

Do you know what gecko it is? Can you post a picture of the gecko and setup? Yes, other than live crickets you can feed live locusts (depending on size of gecko LOL). Dead food is a no go..not healthy at all for the lizard and I doubt you'd get any feeding response at all.

Your keeping it at work?

Please don't be offended, as my only interest here is the animals welfare, but have you thought of giving it to a rescue or someone who knows what their doing? I'm not sure theres any point passing it from one unknowledgable home to the next. I understand your trying to help the animal, but from the information you've provided us I don't think this is a good idea.
  • If you don't know the species of gecko, there is no way to identify the species individual needs such as temperature, temperature gradient, humidity, lifestyle (aboreal or terrestial, and nocturnal or diurnal), UV requirements, nutrional requirements, cage setup (Rain Forest, Temperate Forest, Woodland, Savannah, Desert), how much feeding it needs, what feeding supplements if any it needs, the age (and so adult size if not already adult) cage size it needs. The list could go on and on..
  • Your 'boss' doesn't want to feed it live insects (until we know the species we don't know if indeed thats even the right diet, though it most probably is). And if so, what are you going to do? Live food also need to be fed very well. aka gut loaded. Well fed healthy live food = even better fed and healthy gecko.
  • If it's a green gecko, it is most probably a gecko from the tropical rainforest. It will then need very high constant humidity or health problems can occur. This can be differcult to achieve for the inexperienced keeper.
  • It could be a Phelsuma species, or Gecko gecko..tbh I'm hoping its not Phelsuma, as they are very delicate little geckos that are generally unforgiving to honest husbandry mistakes. Not to mention the sole diet of crickets

I'm looking forward to the pictures so we can at the very least, try to identify it.

Please think very carefully before taking this guy on, gecko's from tropical habitats tend to be very delicate little things, and the most important thing here is the welfare of the animal.
