Quite possibly and most likely ,,to reduce Nitrates.... Only specific filters will do that,,so the rest of us have to lug pales of water from tap to tank,,,

ok look at it like living in a house and opening the windows to freshen the place up!

its simple realy
polution is what your removing whilst doing a water change. this is in the form of fish phoo,fish Wee(amonia) and decaying rotting uneaten food.

by doing a weekly waterchange you are diluting the cr@p in the water making it nicer for your fish

you get the idea?

Yeah, mainly to reduce nitrate. Gets really high in my Frontosa tank and only can be diluted with water changes. Tanganyikan Cichlids are very sensitive to high nitrates so quite big water changes need to be done weekly.

Same with the marine tank, corals cant take high nitrates and slowly die. No other effective way of lowering it.

--> Nitrate removal,

--> Add's minerals to the water to help prevent a pH crash,

--> Reduces any small amount of pollutants that may have got into tank water (air freshener, smoke etc),

--> Can apparently help reduce hormones (that fish give off) in the water that can restrict a fish's growth.

How many fish do you have, what kind of fish and how big is the tank? Is it heavily planted?
