hey guys,

trying to find a way of making some sort of caves for my sterbai... have already got plant pots but looking for something longer and darker..

would there be any issues with using plastic drain pipes from wickes?

i'll be watching this thread with interest Mr Mc

i wouldn't mind some more pipe-work for my Ropes.

i have just started useing the black guttering from Home-base!

being black it gives fish the extra security of a cave ! i am using the part that is the end of a run where the downpipe fits onto . i also use a down pipe bottom spout like a 45 degree bend pushed on top of the guttering and the fish love it !


sterbai dont realy need caves ? if they spawn then its on the glass of the tank

i put these two together as described above
it alows water flow through the cave and its easy to just lift out and vac/clean under!



you could always opt for the open both ends for them to swim through ?

ah the joints is a cool idea, i did see some but they were well pricey.... i picked up a 2 meter length in black for just under 6 quid. have chopped into 6 pieces.

it's not really for them to spawn in, more a place to explore and retreat to if they want a bit of darkness.

I thought u had to use food grade plastic as certain plastics can leach stuff, not entirely sure but it rings a bell

Thats what I thought, but plastic tubes similar to the ones Pope uses are used on sumps and things like that.

well mine is in with my discus .....no problems yet! and i know peeps use plastic guttering as cheap spawning cones .......

your right keith some plastics are bad.........i am taking a calculated risk !Is it any different than the waste water pipe they use on sump returns on larger systems???

I've got plastic pipes in my tank that telboy found in a skip, LOL

and i bet he sold them to ya !!! ) .....your both cheap skates )
