Default Filtration suggestions please.

I'm setting up a 48x24x20 in the front room, it needs to be quiet to keep the rest of the family happy...

Can anyone advise what filtration they'd go for?

I'm running a 48x24x24 in the living room with an old Ecco 2235 running as master with a 2213 as its slave, very quiet, and does the job!

if you can afford it, its free delivery

http://www.charterhouse-aquatics.co....dia-p-189.html

budget version of the Eheim i just listed, although the Aqua One does claim on the stats to have a more powerful pump (flow)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Aqua-one-canis...QQcmdZViewItem

Or..... you could go for x2 Powerful internals like x2 Fluval 4+ that would set you back a total of about £50 including postage on ebay i think, trouble with them is more maintenace, i think they will do as good a job, just more maintenance.

Also depends what fish you keeping in there Pete?

if the tank is anything other than lightly stocked you may need to supplement the one external with a powerhead or internal for increased water flow

So you'd go for the 2026 over an FX5?

well the cheapest i seen the FX5 for is £125, not sure if that includes free delivery. I do know it does not include media

An FX5 in a 300 litre but be too much flow, not sure

I would run an eheim 2250 as the biological filter and fill it with Afragrog or ehfi substrat if the budget permited.

In addition I would run a medium sized eheim canister full of sponges and filter wool to polish the water and run through a UV sterilizer.

The 2250 has a flow rate of about 1,000 litres per hour in terms of tank water turn over that is not over the top just think what the turnover rate in nature is likely to be in a river.

I would go for eheim over fluval as eheim aside from being better engineered and lasting decades are generally far quiter than other filters.

The 2250 is actuallyt the quietest filter I have and it is rated for tanks up to 200 gallons.

I'd agree with Eheim over Fluval, I run both and I would replace the Fluvals if I could afford it. Eheims are easier to maintain, and a lot quieter.

Incidentally the eheim 2250 is comparable in size and performance and cost to the FX 5 but it is very simple to use, quite literally it is a pump attached to a bucket. Also its bottom fill design prevents airlocks forming during a power cut a common problem with old fluvals!!!!
