Post Quarantine tank, should I or shouldnt I?

Hi all,
I`m debating whether to set up a quarantine tank or not? I have some bits and bobs that are surplus to requirement, for instance a Tropiquarium 55 tank, 100watt heater, Biolife Filter and spare media, air pump, piece of bogwood. I dont have much money to go and get extra gear, can anyone suggest a cobbled together filter that would be suitable for that ickle tank? The biolife I feel would be too large and powerful to put in, maybe I could use the pump assembly somehow to make a basic sponge filter?
. I`m pretty good with my hands, and have learnt to make most things through necessity!!!
Any ideas guys?............

In terms of filters, not sure what to advise, i always keep some small internals lying about, and in the event i need to set-up a Q-Tank or Hospital Tank, i just take some mature media and put it in the small internal

On the subject of a Q-Tank as a general principle, i would now, not add any fish to an existing set-up unless i have Quarenteened (spelling?) for atleast 2-weeks, especially from an LFS

Not all illness' will show in 2-weeks, but a lot of them will.

Mostly you will get away with adding new fish and not have a problem, but i have had issues in the past, most recently was Rainbow Fish from an LFS that bought with them Anchor Worm, which took ages to treat, including hunting down the correct medication.

Having learnt through my experience, whenever i want to set a tank up from now on, i am going to have the filters cycled/mature and add everything i want in the space of a week or so, monitor carefully, and then once it settle's i would only add a fish once it got passed 2-weeks in a Q-Tank.
