Default 2 Questions please

Hi its EJ again on mums account because I am not old enough to have one of my own!

2 questions please if thats ok

I am 12 and went on my own to get a fish i wanted a bristlenose for my dads birthday i had checked with mum to make sure it was an ok fish to get for their tank and she said yes but the lady in the shop wouldnt let me buy one she said it was against the law... is it really against the law or was she just being mean? or maybe she was just being careful incase i wasnt really buying it for dad or if i didnt know what i was doing.

number 2 question how is the best way to get good pictures of fish because when i try the flash makes the tank look really bright or the fish all swim away or there are strange marks on the glass maybe it needs a clean lol or something else isnt right i want to take pictures of the fish but it goes wrong.

thank you for helping me i hope its ok to keep asking questions

EJ

I'm not sure if it's 14 or 16 without an adult, she was following the law though, not just being mean.

As for photos, I'm no expert as my limited fish photos show. But clean glass is key, having the room darker than the tank and having the camera pointed slightly downrather than up towards the light works for me. Try not to chase the fish with the camera and instead point your camera at an area in the tank and wait for the fish to swim into it, this will help cut down blur.

hello EJ,

i think and only think that alot of shops will not sell to under 16's unless an adult is with them.i think its for hampsters and other animals also.

photos.
it as rob said best to have the tank brighter than the room. try photographing them with the flash turned off as the flash will often reflect off the glass tank. and flash will also frighten your fish !
some use a external flash above the tank but this is more professional stuff.

here is one i took without flash. and make sure the glass is as clean as possable inside and out.

Yeah, I'm afraid it is againest the law. In the shop I work in, as with probably any other shop that sells livestock, you have to be 16 to buy fish, hamster, rats etc. You would have to be accompanied by an adult.

With regards to photos, pretty much what the two Robs have said.

dependant on the type of camera, i was taught an angle of 45 degrees is preferable for taking photos through glass.
Try putting some tissue paper over the flash, this will reduce the amount of light given out but will still illuminate the subject.

Nowt wrong with the tank. try and cover the lights with something like tissue or geaseproof paper this will reduce the light and give more colour to your tank in the photys
I hasten to add this is not a critism of your photography, just an old hand trying to help
