Fish at last!! Woo Hoo!!!
Well the time came on Sunday to welcome some new arrivals, after having the tank run its fishless cycling.
I chose 2 Boesemans Rainbow fish, and 4 Blue Moon tetras to start with, all doing well, the rainbows have coloured up lovely in their new home. The tetras are still sorting out the pecking order between themselves, one in particular seems to be the boss and chases the others to the back of the tank, I hope this is normal behaviour? if not big bully will be sent packing!
Please get in touch if you can offer me any advice with these fish, likes, dislikes etc, it would be gratefully received x

Nice one Sally!
The Blue Moon Tetra, i have not heard of them, is it like this?
That would be what i call a Blue Tetra, and i have quite a few of them, and they are constantly on the move, chasing each other "internal politics" lol
If it is this fish Sally, from my reading up, they are "semi aggressive" as small tetra's go, lots of chasing and nipping, but mine never really do any damage, they chase the odd other small tetra or harlequin in my tank, but mostly they keep it within their own group, funny to watch, almost like they are permanently angry!
I would hazard a guess your Rainbows would be fine with them. You may want to expand both groups of fish you have bought if you end up liking them, they both might do better in bigger groups, maybe x4 for the Rainbows and x6 or x8 for the Blue Tetra, as any aggression (with the Tetra's) will be more spread out among the group

hi ya FL,
Well my naming of the blue moon tetra is clearly not correct! mine dont look like the pic you attached! typical lfs not knowing what they talkin about as usual! (or me for that matter!) its definately a tetra I think, of some sort. It has a pinkish forked tail and anal fin, with a bluish irredescent sparkle to its back. I would take pics, but dont think it would help much, and worried the flash would stress them.
I`ve also noticed today, the rainbow fish(female) not as deeper bodied as the male I have), has a whitish scuff on the top of her snout, It doesnt look like white spot, she hasnt been scratching or flicking on stuff, and its not evident anywhere else, not on fins etc. She didnt take any food tonight either, and is staying at the top of the water, whereas the male is cruising midwater and moving about. I`m worried, should I be?
I`ve taken water samples, all ok, has she just banged it? or should I treat the tank just incase?

Or this...
As for the Rainbow, hard to tell, yes could be a bump.
Keep an eye on it, for any reddening of the area, or if it gets bigger or "fluffy" like a fungus.

I have only been feeding them a little, twice each day, as much as they will consume in few mins, there is never any left! I`ve been feeding them tetra pro colour and tetra pro vegetable, are these ok?
