Default going on holiday what do you do?

ok guys im off to visit my best friend over in Canada !

two weeks away and well over due.should have visited years ago but funds were a issue.
Now im faced with what to do with the kids(Fish).you cant expect someone to come over every day for 14 days waterchanging feeding scrubbing and chatting to fellow AC members!

im thinking of chucking my discus all together in one tank if the fry die before we go.making waterchane easyer. im not to worried about the goldfish as they go easy 3 weeks without canister being cleaned and its well understocked.

any ideas on what you would do if you were going away ?keeping things simple as auto waterchanges are not possable in the flat!

Fish can easily go a week or two without food, but it'd be good if someone fed them every few days. Once a week water change should be ok for the discus too, 2 weeks without a change would probably be ok but I'd want it changed more than that if possible.

If you are not overstocked 2 weeks is fine with no wc, i personally wouldn't risk letting anyone feed them, not worth them over feeding or doing something wrong, if they are not being fed, less waste and even less of a worry with wc.

i have a couple of water barrels that i plan to mix my discus water up in so it will only need heating up before being added.i may still get a small pond pump that can pump to a head of 1+ meters
My cousin has kept fish so if i can get him to visit of a weekend and change a large amount then i think i will be ok .
I have a auto feeder but reluctunt to risk it......zero food = zero polution!i dont want my discus to go off feeding .

i could always send a tank to his house with the fry in to try keeping ......nothing to loose!

All I do is do a waterchange, make sure filters are clean night before I leave, give one last feed on the day I leave and thats it. Longest I've left them for is 2 weeks, came back everything was ok.

I don't do holidays much less stressful.

Best answer though is to find someone knowledgable and get them to look after them with clear instructions noted against each tank stuck on with sellotape.

Also measure out all the food before you go aim to feed them half of the usual.

Also get them to come around to do some water changes before you go on holiday so they a familiar with the routine.

My rule of thumb for most things is plan for the worst and hope for the best.

Also go through the operation of all of the equipment and where the electrics are in the house in case for some reason a fuse trips.
