Default New To The Game..

I have been given a aqua start 500 tank and stand (65L ) . Tank came with two fantailed goldfish (think thats what they are called). they have been together for five years now and are about 6" long. The tank is up a running with filters and pumps.
I was wondering if i could add other fish to the tank or will the fish be hostile to new mates.
Any help on type of fish that could be added without upset ,if any.

thanks

Its not the fact that they will be "hostile" to their new mates but more as to if there is enough filtration/ room for them to swim around in!

hello mate 1st off welcome to the forum...if i were you i would post the dimensions /size of tank followed by details on filtration etc,50 litres isnt a very big tank for goldfish to be honest, and they are very messy fish + produce ample nitrates phosphates etc so youll need good filtration

hi there and welcome
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the tank is very small for the fish you have, as telboy has said goldfish are very messy fish and the filter you have is only recommended for tanks up to 57L, but even then with goldfish you really need loads more filtration. if you do have to keep this tank for now Do not add any more fish!! and you will need to get more filtration. are the fish the long bodied type IE comets?

or are they the more rounded variety IE fancy goldfish? if they are the fancy goldfish they are probably about as big as they are going to get. but if they are the comets they can and will get a lot bigger i have one who is approx 8in and is still growing!! any chance of a picture?

Hi there they are great looking fish, but as they are the longer bodied type i suspect that they will get bigger.
they really do need a bigger tank and filter, i suggest a 3ft tank so they have plenty of swimming space, then perhaps you could add one more fish.
check out ebay you can pick up a 3ft tank and filter for about £30, if you need any more help let me know.
