Default Piranhas

I saw some small piran in a cheap fish shop near me for 5.50 a piece. 1.5 inch max probably.

I am thinking of moving all my algae eaters and small rasbora etc from my planted tank and putting in 3 of them small piranha.

Would it be possible for me to keep something that eats algae with them, can they mix with other fish also. and is it a wise move to do this? ive heard theyre pretty booring but there will be a good side to them being predatory. thanks

Piranha do tend to be "boring" as they tend to stay rather still in a group and in one place. This comes from their predatory nature.
If you are thinking that you can drop a piece of meat into the tank and they will go wild then think again as most of the piranha available are fruit eating and not meat eaters.

My brother has a tank of 8 of them.

What size is the tank they are going in? as they get huge.

I also think it might be wise keeping them in a bigger group then 3 due to aggression. As far a tank mates are concerned, I'm not sure. IMO I wouldnt put anything with them after seeing on the TV a small group tearing apart a 3ft Tiger Shovel Nose catfish in seconds! I think they only target fish in distress or injured.

They are only not boring when they feed, it is coool! Otherwise they are very very shy fish and go crazy when you walk past the tank. They've knocked the lid off my brothers tank so many times!

Yep, he feeds them Lance Fish daily and a mouse weekly. Is amazing to watch. But for such ferocious fish they are the shyest you will ever see. As soon as the biggest one (about 6"-7") takes a bite, they just go into a frenzy.
