Smile Tiny Tank

Hello

Mum (Donna) said I could use her account to ask a question I hope thats ok.

I have saved up and got a tiny tank its 16"x8"x8" it has a light and an air sponge filter thing in it I have put some gravel in it just a little bit and some plants and a heater I have got 3 little guppys and 5 red cherry shrimp in it but I was wondering if it would be ok to put any more in it? I dont want to make the fish sick or unhappy but would like some more fish! I am careful to not feed too much and do really small water changes 2 or 3 times a week and test the water every week so I think I am doing things right

cant wait till I save up enough for a bigger tank of my own or steal one of mum and dads

Thank you

EJ

hello ej, welcome to the forum,if i were you i wouldnt add anymore fish as the tank you have is very small. You have guppies already, and the thing is, if you have 1 male + 2 females within 6 months you could have a 100 babies...the thing with small tanks is they're harder to keep the water conditions correct, which in turn could lead to problems...it sounds as if you are doing things correctly with the water changes etc;it also sounds as if you have got the fish bug?it wont be long before you have to ask mum to move the furniture around to fit in more tanks id wait for a while, see how you get on and maybe mum will buy you another tank...if you liveed close to me id give you 1 of my spare 2fters...good luck n all the best and dont feel scared to ask any questions, we dont bite, well not often

Thanks Telboy if you ever come near leicester the tank would be great thank you but i dont think Dad would drive me to london to get it! I love fish and help Mum and Dad with the tanks apart from the Piranhas they have teeth and I have fingers. i think maybe i do have 2 female fish because i have looked them up and 2 are getting fat with a dark dot on the belly so I think i may have more fish soon so i will have to get another tank there is no room in the living room for more tanks and my room is full of stuff but the spare room has enough room for a tank or 2 i think.
your going to get me into trouble heehee thank you for your help if i get lots of babies i will give them to the fish shop if i cant get a new tank

Hi EJ and welcome to the forum

Telboy's right in what he says, it is hard to keep small tanks water quality where it needs to be compared to larger ones. You will most probably have more fish in a month or so like he says as well, but if you are lucky, your cherry shrimps may breed as well (fingers crossed for you)

Welcome to the world of fish keeping, most of us started off with a small tank, and then progress from there
