clown wrasse
Hello ,brian aka grandad here. I have a problem with my clownwrasse, hes stopped eating, Ive had him about 18 months as an adult ,hes always fed well, but for the last five days hasn,t ate a thing and spends all day at the bottom of the tank. his breathing is normal no marks or disease evident seems quite alert , but is totally ignoring food , when he decides to move swims normally but not very far then settles back to the bottom of the tank.I havn,t got a clue how old he is so do you think it might be old age and hes just given up .Look forward to seeing your comments . BRIAN .

mmm hard one this...how large is the fish[may help to age it?]...do you have a good supply of pods in the tank? it may be that its finding its own food?...what are you feeding it? what are its tank mates?

hello telboy, the wrasse is about 6inches long nothing in the tank that he can eat except what I feed him i.e mussels, ****les and lancet fish . His only tankmate at the moment is my porcupine puffer who gets on great with him picture of both of them in the members list . Brian

did ya know a fully grown adult can reach around 15 inches? have you tried it on brine shrimp or mysis?might be worth a bash...or summat with garlic meant to induce feeding... are you sure theres no fighting going on at night when lights are off? only everyone i know thats had a porcie say they end up very aggressive once theyve settled

Tried him with garlic, and entice soaked into his food since the second day no responce, tried him on mysis .Have not tried him on brine shrimp ,will buy some in the morning. As far as I can tell he buries himself under the sand at about 7 oclock every night and does not come back out until about an hour after the lights come back on in the morning ,and hes not afraid of the porcie at feeding times I had to feed the puffer by hand or he would not get any thing as the wrasse would barge him out of the way and scoff the lot.

Hello telboy the wrasse was 6 inches when I bought him and has not grown since , he had been kept for a number of years ( dont know how many ) in a very small tank when growing up resulting in him having a bent spine ,according to the owner of the shop I bought him from . felt sorry for him (all heart lol) didn`t buy the fish I went to the store for,had him instead . Since he has been with me he`s straightened up quite a bit and can now turn left and right without any problems hes still a bit crooked but a lot straighter than he was. hes totally unafraid and would also come into my hand whenever I had my hand in the tank or at feeding times, AS you know these fish are an entirely different colour when young and only turn into the colour he is now in adulthood so we still cant guess his age by size. brian.

Hello ,update on the wrasse, tried him, on brine shrimp and freshwater live shrimp ,not interested, hadn`t seen him for 36 hours as hes staying under gravel, dug him up this morning to see if hes still alive(don't want him polluting the tank) he looks fine stayed on the base of the tank for about 30seconds then buried himself again , unless anyone has any more suggestions I think I will have to let nature take its course, thanks for the help.
