Default making up my own salt water?

ok...i have the option of buying all my water ready prepared, but just wondered how hard it is to just make my own up? do i use tapwater? do i need RO water? i haven`t a clue lol...it is for a fish only aquarium.

You would need obviously salt £40-£60 usually for a 25kg bucket. RO Unit for producing RO water, decent one for around £70 and a refractometer so you can measure the salinity and something to mix it the water in. Never use tap water as its full of crap i.e chlorine, Nitrate, heavy metals etc . It is straight forward to do. All mine is made in this way.

Just what ever is easiest for you. Probably cheaper in the long run mixing it yourself.

thanks for the quick response, glad i asked as i read on google it can be done with tapwater for the initial set up!! i will buy the water i think and then look in to an RO unit etc to make my own up for water changes etc...cheers

if you have good water pressure id advise getting an RO unit easy to get nowadays and prices have dropped, youll also need salt, a big mixing bucket, a heater,a powerhead,a refractometer[is best]but a hydrometer will do! fill the mixing bucket with RO,add required amount of salt,test sg levels are correct[24-26]switch on the powerhead + heater, leave overnight...

Hi Telboy u alright mate!!
I was told that u could use an airstone instead of a powerhead and leave it at room temperature or next 2 a radiator 4 24hrs??? Would this do????

aye up BD, yeah air pump will do the job mate but new water should always be the same temp as tank
