hello guys and girls

i ,ve just started a marine setup which has everything i need i got this on thursday i have a cleanup crew in which is 3 hermit crabs and 3 turbo snails
can anyone advise me on when it would be best to add the cleaner shrimp and the fish has i was told to wait until the weekend to add the cleaner shrimp and then leave it another 2 to 3 weeks before i add th fish i would be greatful for any advice on this has i don,t want to mess up and cause any problems with my new setup

Are you saying you have literally bought and set up an aquarium on thursday and already have livestock i it?
I'm no expert but if you have you are in a bit of a hurry, it can takes weeks for your water to reach the correct parameters, (have you done any testing) and several more weeks before adding livestock should be considered.
I suggest you either go back to your lfs and buya siutable book or gp to your library and buy one, study the book very carefully, they will lead you through the creation of a water world in very easy steps.
Nevertheless I hope your tank is a success.

the water was purchase set to the right level check the gravity of it everyday since it got is and it spot on so i did,nt see a problem with putting the turbo snails and hemit crabs in regards

have a read of these before you contemplate putting anything else in

hiya grandad

thank for that have had a read it i have loads of live rock in my tank it cost me £12 per kilo so i know it the good stuff i got a Total of £210 pound worth so it should be enough to do the job i have a coral gravel from the same place i bought the whole lot of rock and that so i will wait and test water in a weeks time to check all the levels are right but the place i got the tank etc from said he would keep me right i join this site in the hope i can learn alot more from people whom have setup running with out the problems the can arise with the marine tanks

Can you tell us a little bit more about your setup i.e size, equipment, lighting etc.

Also what you plan to do with it. Is it going to be a fish only or a reef tank with corals?

live rock at 12 pound per kilo i have over £200 pound worth in
3 turbo snails and 3 hermit crabs so that is my setup i would like to have corals and fish in the tank and it been setup an running since the 19th june 08

hi,

really for the lighting side of things you should have t5s minamum to give the lumanair qualities for your corals to survive, i am very surprised a shop sold you t8s for a new marine set up.
it takes a long time for your tank to cycle your nitrates will go high and low then stable out as will your amonia calcium phosphates etc your tank will go through changes brown stage green stage etc before settling down what kind of filteration are you useing just out of interest

hiya when i asked about the filters they told me as long has i has plenty of live rock and a good protien skimmer i would not need to use that has he has a setup he same as mine at home that he beng runnng for sometime his said the live rock acts has the filter the protien skimmer also a built in filtration thing that i have to put the red sea carbon in

hello nice that you have joined the forum!

Sorry to sound a little negative but it sounds to me there are to many "HE SAID's!"
remember he is in the aquatic trade and probably knows exactly what he is doing with a shop full of products at his disposal.

the Marine keepers on this forum know what they are talking about as they have been through it themselfs. You ony need to look at the photos of their tanks to see this!

I sugest you stop taking the fish shop keepers word for things and go from here with your own research.
