Default waste pipe

Has anyone used standard pvc waste on there tank I have just ordered a 7x2x2 with four foot sump ABS pipe and fittings especially tank connectors are a fortune I have been advised by a supplier that there is little or no danger using pvc your thoughts please.

hello mate, theres always a debate over this, most say yes but some say no...no because they claim it can leach undesirables into the system...yes because its much cheaper/fittings are easily available etc etc! i know of plenty of folk use it with no probs,but dont know anyone who has had probs...have i just confused you even more?

i agree with telboy i`ve used it and no problems in shops and on my own systems and it does work and save you money!

I have used standard pvc guttering, for the construction of tunnels, in my tanks for many years with no ill effects.

ABS pipe doesn't cost a fortune if you buy it from B&Q many fish shops however put a huge mark up on it!!!!
