Default Blue Trout

Just seen someone advertising Blue Trout on the classifieds.

I've never seen these available for. Is it unusual for these to come up for sale?

I have never seen them for sale before, and only once in a pond. I have seen small Golden Trout for sale, but they are quite unusual too.

They are probably not popular because they need cool water and a lot of oxygen, so a garden pond in summer is going to need a lot of work to be suitable for them. They would also eat small fish.

Trout are very fast-moving and impressive fish if you have the time and space to keep them.

It's probably a strain of rainbow trout, Oncorhynchous mykiss
As Naiad said, stay away from any form of salmonid if you have a small pond.
I have dealt with trout farmers who have heart failure when the temperature rises in summer, they need deep, cool, well oxygenated water. You only have to look at a salmonid the wrong way and it goes belly up.

They can be kept in aquaria when small, they will grow big and eat any smaller fish.

I do like the look of trout, especially on a plate with new potatoes and steamed green beans
