Unhappy Fish in Troble

I have a Ogon Koi 20" it has sores by front fins i have removed rotten scale with twesers and applied topical medicine. also two soses on under body. I put fin rot and fungus treatment in pond as advised. after correct time put in Ulcer and Wound treatment. Took fish to Aquatic Center they took Scraping of fish they found nothing nasty. applied medicine as advised kept isolated for a few days to medicate easly no other reason. After 6 days she wasant happy in isolation so put her back in pond. alright last night But today she is swimming on surface, ocasionaly going a foot deep. and she has bubbles comming out of her right gill then puting her head out of water with mouth wide open Does any one know why she is doing this or what is wrong and can I do anything to help Thankyou We decided to keep her isolated so as we could medicate each day day 6 she looked like she wouldnt last long in container any more. Shop didnt say to isolate. It has now been sugested it could be swim blader infection try Acriflavin i am going to shop to get some

this is a bit out of my depth, perhaps Alan or DR (forum members) will have some idea's, although it would appear you have done all you can really.

Are all the other fish in the pond ok?

kathy, the reason you were told to isolate the fish was because there was a chance whatever was wrong with your fish may have been contagious, you said she wasnt happy so you put her back? so now perhaps you have put the health of all your other fish at risk!

I don't think there is much risk that the other fish will catch something now, as the unhealthy fish has already been in contact with them, so either they are infected or they are not.

What is the water temperature?

any risk is still a risk is it not?im not having a dig here but you here so many times on forums "i was told to isolate, but my fish wasnt happy so",the reason you isolate a fish is because it may be at risk or it may be a risk, so isnt it better to follow instructions and poss save all fish rather than risking all fish because one looked un happy????

I understand what you are saying, but I still usually don't isolate my fish except to quarantine new ones, or if they are getting bullied, or if a treatment is needed which may harm the others. If one of them is ill, the chances are that whatever bacteria, virus or parasites caused the illness are now in the water, so all the fish have been exposed to them. Some fish react very badly to being put in a small container, and start jumping and splashing around, causing stress and risking injury.

However if a fish needs special medication I still think the best thing is to isolate it.

Hi Kathy, I would keep the fish isolated, at constant temp with plenty of airstones, although with a koi of that size ammonia will be an issue in a non-mature tank. Can you upload any pics. It does sound like a bacterial inf. again being a large fish and prolonged onset of inf, I would try an bntibiotic. Baytril is the usual type, other types mixed with food. Only vets will provide this. Plus the vet should give you some sterile swabs, take a swab from the gills and from the sores, send to a disease lab to confirm. They should run an antibiogram in culture to determin the best AB, possibly follow up injection. It does sound as though it is advanced. The skin scraping after treatment wont show much, It doesnt sound viral, but then again shouldnt be ruled out. SVC occurs in the spring.
