No offence if i am taking your method of fishkeeping wrongly but is the tank cycled with active filter media?

My first fishkeeping experience was when i was bought a fish bowl with a black moor and i didnt have a clue.

I carried out some reseach and found that there had a to be an active community of beneficial bacteria within the tank to provide stability for the water conditions, also preventing fluctuations of harmful chemicals to the fish.

If this is carried out then take a standard method and keep up the daily water changes and make sure that the fish have some oxygen to breathe, either some coldwater plants like pond weed or a little air pump with air stone.

hope this helps...

How big is the bowl and does it have a filter?
All the goldfish bowls that I have seen are far too small for goldfish, and the water quality will become bad very fast, causing serious problems for the fish. They really need a large tank.

Default ill fish

thanks for the replys i have a 14 litre tank and a mini underwater filter which works brillantly, it was a tank in which mates brought for me on my birthday, quite a surprise pressie really, i asked the pet store which deals with just fish if blackmoors would be ok for this type of tank and they said it would be fine, the fish is slowly getting worse its now hard to tell if it is breathing at all, i know this sounds awful but is fish does die will it flow to top. i really hope it does live as they are such a lovely breed. thank you

Hopefully Admin will move this to the coldwater section. Going on the basis that your tank is only 5wks old, it will be going through biological maturation. 14litres will be fine for 2 small fancies, they will need a larger tank if they grow large.
Get an airstone in there and no food for another week.

Default ill fish

Hi thanks for the replys sadly my little fish died so now down to one, as its been so since i kept fish (I was about 12) I think I may have shocked them with a complete water change and that may be why he died, I should take half the water out then fill back up with clean? i know this sounds silly but really this is the first time i have really kept fish i dont mean to kill them help!! basically what i am doing is taking them out of the tank cleaning the tank and stones then putting fresh in then putting fish back in tank with some of the old water in with them,
can anyone help the filter is cleaned as well it has a sponge inside which is cleaned
