Koi, Fancy Goldfish & PondsIf you are into Koi and pondkeeping, including fancy goldfish and all aspects of water gardening, then this is the section for you. Fancy goldfish are welcome here.
I hope someone can help, i have a two teir pond set up in my garden.. the top pond has a variety of fish (mainly a variety of gold fish and with 4 koi.. NOT ghost) the bottom pond now has only one ghost koi which i would like to transfer to the top pond if possible with my other fish, however, i have been told that ghost koi do not mix well with other none koi fish and i do not want to put this fish in an environment that may cause much stress, harm or death to the other fish?? please could someone help!!
The only problem I can see with mixing them is that ghost koi often grow much bigger than other koi, and certainly much bigger than goldfish. This is only a problem if they compete for food and the small ones miss out, or as D.R. says, if the size difference is big enough that they can eat each other.
The food competition problem can be minimised by feeding a mixture of different sized pellets, and scattering the food over a wide area to avoid a few fish hoovering it up before the others can get to it.
Ive had both Koi and ghost koi and some goldfish in the same pond for a number of years and ive never had a problem. They were all in a smaller pond before the new one was built and lived happily together.
As naiad says when you feed them spread it around the pond.
