Default Red Flush in Veiltail Goldfish Fins

In 2 of my older veiltail calicos they have a rad flush in the tail finnage. They seem healthy enough besides that. I wondered if anyone else has found this problem (they have had this for about 2 months) and any suggestions to clear it up. There are no red streaks, just a red flush.

Default Red flush

Yanton, this is normally caused by water conditions or stress. I would try doing a water change every day and this should clear up the problem. My fish are kept on a drip system, all tanks are bottom drained and the water flows through the tanks as quickly or as slowly as is required.

thanks, i have just moved them into a new 6ft tank with some fresher water - and more water changes all around on the weekend.

PS: got any nice calico blue lionheads spare? that last pic was a great little fish. I have just got a few blues from Tim Haywood, only youngsters, but with good promise, not quite as short bodied as UK specimens, but hopefully good feeding will bulk them out.

Hope to see you are the Bristol show in Autumn.

The female lionheads are fattening up nicely ready for spawning, hopefully should have some spawnings over the next couple of weeks. When they have spawned I will post pictures of their development on a weekly basis. I should be attending all the major Goldfish shows starting in Coventry in June and ending up at the GSGB in late September. Any decent surplus and I will give you first option.

I would put the flush down to red blood cells in the fins. Perfectly normal, especially in paler, long finned varieties. You can actually see the blood cells in the fin rays with a microscope.
Any pics?

My veiltail goldfish has a pink fin, the left one, it looks smaller than fin on the oposite side, and is not using it much, as if he has bumped it, and if very sore. Will melaflex treat this?
