Default have eggs

hi all

purchased my first pair of discus last sunday and having doing alternate daily water changes with ro water they jave laid tonite.

seen as tho im highly excited of being a discus parent for the first time.

just wondering about further water changes to clean tank

will it disturb parents
i assume it common practise only to clean up uneaten food and poo etc

can i still do say a daily 10% change or is that to much

at the mo im as nervous as hell in the hope or raising my first batch of wrigglers

thanks delboy

first of all congratulations Delboys Discus!
im 13 days into my first batch of fry so hope my video diary will help over the next few days!

if its a mature pair then they may know exactly what to do ! if its a young pair then they may need a few trys. they will go orange if they are fertile and white if they are infertile/fungussed.

i would syphon the poop and uneaten foods and then just top up ( could dribble to up through a airline very slowley so as not to disterb them .

you will have to just see how your parents are! mine i can do anything with ....yet i have had them 8 months.

welcome to the mad world of discus
regards Robert.

tank size 115 l therefore 12mls methylene blue

clue is in the words methylene blue lol . the waters fine as long as you followed the recommended dose. 9years ago we used to put so much of it in you would not see anything in the tanks for weeks. You can remove it quickly if you wanted to by running your tank water through a carbon filter .

well your eggs shouldnt get funguss

Del im led to believe meth blue works by stoping light and this in turn stops the fungus form growing! from what i understand it is one of the older procedures that still works today. it should improve the hatch rate and if the parents dont object to the dark blue then not a problem.

good luck and have a look at BIDKA for ideas on what to do and what not to do!
http://forum.bidka.org/index.php

keep us updated on how they get on !

rob.
