How many fry per spawn?
Whats the most fry anyone has ever had from a single "rift valley" spawn? and whats your preferred method of saving the fry wether it be stripping at eggs and tumbling them, strip at fry, let them release naturally etc etc

not sure Woz, i let nature take it's course, not being judgemental, but myself, i just can't see the point of stripping and all that malarky. I think i would only do it if i had a dedicated breeding program or was trying to make money.
I let all mine get on with it, and i've noticed quite a few fry surviving, in fact, there's a higher survival rate than i imagined and i will need to re-home some fish in a few months if i stick with the 300 litre Malawi set-up and don't upgrade.

i never strip eggs but occasionally strip fry if im wanting to bring some fish up, if i have a natural spawning and leave the little ones in the 300lt tank i usually get 1 fry survive per spawn.I striped a "cherry red hap" yesterday and got 38 fully formed fry which i plan on growing up and keeping, I got 10 synadontis multipunctatus the other day which im going to try and breed alongside some of my haps, so i might start stripping abit sonner due to the high cannablism rate amomgst the synadontis.Im certainly looking forward to having a go at breeding them

well done Woz
that's very impressive mate
I was going to strip a red zebra recently, as she was holding for 6-weeks, YES, 6-weeks and she was skinny as a rake. Perhaps the fry were dead in her mouth as 6-weeks is a long time, and she is a young mother. I tried catching her and quickly realised i wasn't going to catch her, so i left her to it. She survived and is now back up to her normal body weight/shape.

I make mine spit in a smaller tank for raising them, with my stocking levels no fry would survive i dont think.
i have had 10 from one brood, she was stuffed with the fry and they were at least half a centimetre.
pretty cool stuff.

i must be fortunate, or its just the way i have done my rock work and slate. My Malawi tank is turning into a guppy tank, i counted about 20 fry last night and thats just the ones i noticed coming out of the rock work at feeding time that have hit the 1cm mark (and therefore highly likely to survive onwards), and this set-up was only re-vamped 8-weeks ago remember, so all the fry are from the last 8-weeks only.
It's mostly the Acei and Red Zebra, but i think some of the fry are Greshaki too.
Altho i dont have Syno's, they are fry-eating machine's from what i hear.

id believe they are fry munchers, especially due to their size some are about 5inch or so. but i prefer to seperate them for a couple of months until they put on abit of size, then occasionally let them run the guantlet. i used to put them in my tropheus tank but i have to strip the entire tank to get the fry out when i want them(which i hate doing) so i just stick them into a breeding trap or a small tank if i have room

doing well anyway to be keeping that many fish alive they dont last long in my tank( probably because of 12 multis and a pretty overstocked tank)
